I find it very interesting that media, entertainment and culture today are beginning to change language as it develops. For those of us who have not seen the movie Silence of the Lambs we are still about to comprehend this sentence simply because the storyline’s popularity. Popular entertainment phrases are beginning to quickly throw themselves into the English language. “Pulling a Keane” is translated as really rude interruptions, after Keane West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2010 MTV Awards. “The Force” can be also a very popular phrase known as the Star Wars’ invisible power-giving force that connects all people including the standard English force as in natural strength, physical power, or effectiveness. Any person who has been around anytime of media the past few years, especially Harry Potter fans will know exactly what a “Muggle” is. Rowling has created words with multiple root origins base that now Harry Potter fans know exactly what they mean. The song “Bootylicious” caused mild controversy in the media when it was released in 2001. But as it has grown to become such a common word in today’s society it was coined and entered in the Oxford English Dictionary defined as "sexually attractive, sexy; shapley". As society’s culture becomes more and more influential, it will undoubtly begin to affect the language of its society. This could be a positive or a negative evolution based on opinion, and how the language develops. Personally, I think that people can learn easily when they have things that they can relate to. But with the learning process becoming more “simple” with the connections to entertainment, this could make people rather lazy in the education system.
